Good things that happened today:

1. We made it to story time early!
2. Strawberries were on sale at Winco. These are Natalie and I's favorite fruit. We were both pleased.
3. Natalie and I took a nap.
4. I was able to find the house I wasn't able to find before, that I needed to go do a Primary Visit at.
5. Natalie got a giant bag of pretzel's from the house listed above and she ate the whole thing. She was happy about it.
6. Justin will be home tonight!
7. We made it half way through January.

Great things that have happened the last two weeks:

1. The sun has been out more than it hasn't meaning we were able to go on walks and play at the park frequently. A rare occurence on the West Side in January.

2. Justin and I were able to go listen to Elder M. Russell Ballard who is a Twelve Apostle for our church speak last Friday in a fireside for our stake.

3. I saw baby #2 on ultrasound again last Monday. So far I have not had the energy to come up with a better announcement. So here you go, We are expecting Baby Blazzard #2 on July 16th or there about and are really excited!

4. Morning/All Day sickness is improving most days.

5.  Lots of time for reading these days.

11 Months Old

Wow, this post has been on my to do list for a couple of weeks now, but with our college computer dying this is the first time I have been able to really get it done without a computer crashing on me. Here we go. She is 11 months old and on the move!

She took her first consecutive steps on January 29th
Since then she has been very diligent at practicing her walking each day
This week she has walked up and down the hall and through the kitchen without falling.
I bought her a pair of shoes to wear when we are out and about and she is still getting used to them.
Her hair is coming in thick and red. It is beautiful and ADORABLE in a pony tail.
She is still a social butterfly. Many people refer to her as the "ward" baby because she will go to pretty much anyone and is always friendly to those who approach her.
She ripped a hymn book page last Sunday. It was just a corner, but I felt terrible.
She has been obsessed with them since she was like five months old.
She doesn't really like vegetables. I keep offering them, so hopefully this changes throughout this year.
She has figured out how to open cupboards and gladly unloads them for me multiple times a day.
She is growing in her ability to express her love for us. It is the sweetest thing in the world to have her lay her head on your shoulder and she give you a hug.
She keeps me on my toes everyday with her curiosity about anything that she can get into.
Only 11 more days and she will be ONE!

The Christmas Season

Our ward had their annual Christmas part last weekend. I had the opportunity to be the over seer of it and what a blast it was.The theme was "Christmas at Winter Quarters," and we had a wonderful old fashioned roast beef dinner, sang Christmas Hymns, and Square Danced! For any of you who have never square danced, as hick as it may sound, it is so much fun!

Natalie was very curious about Santa Claus. When Justin went to gather her up from Santa she swatted him away because she was still looking at his beard. We brought the 90's back that evening as she sported an outfit from my youngest sisters closet.
Thanks to my mom for shipping it to us so quickly.

Lastly, her Christmas dress! I was so excited to buy this for her as it was a tradition that I always grew up with. She likes it except for when it is time to crawl in it.

The night Justin carried in the Christmas tree she lit up with excitement as if to say, "I always wanted a real tree in my house." She likes to look at it especially when the lights are on, but has been pretty good about leaving it alone. She doesn't know what is coming, but she is going to love the wrapping paper on Christmas morning!

Birth Announcement

If I could I would send one of these to everyone.
However, we still need to feed and clothe this child
and one day send her to college,
I am posting it for all to see.
Enjoy

Hospital

We were/are so excited. We had been up all night but couldn't rest, so we took pictures!

Grandma Came

My mom was able to come and stay with us the first week after Natalie was born. This was a huge help to us. She cleaned, cooked, watched Natalie so I could sleep and listened to me as I tried to reason through all the hormone changes. She also helped me through some challenges with breast feeding that could have been really hard had she not been there.

I loved the time with my mom. I love my mom. I love that she has taught me how to be a mom.

Natalie's Birth Story

Fair warning, this is super long story of a natural labor. It was helpful to me to read other people's labor stories before going through it, especially positive ones. I hope this can help someone else or just bring insight to what a natural birth was like for one woman. I also wanted to record it for my own memory.

The week after my baby shower I started to feel really yucky. I was getting a strange taste in my mouth after everything I ate, peeing every 20 minutes during the day and every hour at night, felt like I had done the splits, and very tired. I could tell a huge change from week 36 to week 38. Everyone kept reassuring me that the end of pregnancy is just like that. I wondererd if there was more to it though and really felt like my hormones were changing.

On Thursday of this week Justin and I headed to the doctor. The previous week (37 weeks gestation) I was dialated to a 1 1/2 and 50% effaced. I was really hoping to be at a 3 this week. My sisters all  dialated quite a lot and quite early. I told the nurse that we would be going for a long hike that weekend to help get things going.

The doctor checked me and I was at a 2 and 75% effaced. Progress, but nothing to say that I wasn't going to be pregnant for another two weeks. I was happy with the progress, but was not as excited about feeling yucky for the next two weeks. We went to Burgerville afterwards to celebrate and I didn't want to cook. This is an Oregon only fast food hamburger place. It is really yummy and higher quality fast food than any where else I have eaten.

The next day was Friday March 8. It had been a nice end to the week because Justin had been in town for the last couple of days and had been home each night by 5 p.m. We ate dinner, watched something (I can't remember what it was), and made plans to go to the beach the next day (Saturday) because we had nothing else to do. Both being pretty tired, we retired to bed about 9.

At 10:40 I woke up and felt like I needed to go to the bathroom, which was certainly not abnormal for me at this point. As I headed down the hall I realized my pants felt a little wet. "How embarrasing I thought, I now can't even make it to the bathroom on time."

I then realized that perhaps my water had broke. I didn't get to excited, until I went to the bathroom and it was clear I had not wet myself. Back to the bedroom I walked, pretty excited. I checked the sheets and my body pillow and saw those were both wet as well. My adrenaline began pumping. I woke Justin up and told him that I thought my water had just broke. He took a couple of pokes to really wake up.

Later he told me he thought I was referring to something in the bathroom that had broken and wanted to say, "We will fix it in the morning." He came to and discoverd this couldn't be fixed in the morning. He got up and was pretty excited too. We both asked each other what we should do. He went and found our birth book from our class and followed the advice to call the hospital if your water breaks. They told us we could come in then or wait a while, whichever we felt like we wanted to do.

I opted to stay at home for a while. I wasn't yet having contractions and knew that to have fewer interventions during the birth process it was best to labor as long as you could at home. We packed our bags and ate some food. Many people had told me how one of the things about labor was how hungry they had been because you aren't allowed to eat during it. I quickly remembered this and wasn't going to go into this without any food, knowing we had a long night ahead of us.

Contractions started happening at about 11:30 p.m. They were quite consistent and at about 12:30 we were at the 1 every 5 minutes. Justin wanted to head to the hospital. I knew I could do more at home and we stayed put for another 45 minutes. Justin watched television while I tried to rest between contractions. We decided to head to the hospital at 1:15 a.m. on March 9.

We got into the Birthing Center, which is locked at night and you have to ask permission to enter over an intercom. The nurses took me right to a room and had me change, get hooked up to a fetal monitor and they checked me. I was at a 3 1/2 and 90% effaced. The contractions were steady, strong and consistent. This was hard for me because I had to lay in the bed while the monitor was on and I could not get comfortable. After about 30 minutes, and a bad contraction I demanded I get out of the bed. The nurse let me get off of the monitors and move around.

When the nurse was hooking me up to the monitors she asked me what my birthing plan was. I told her the following:

- Wanted to do it naturally
- Knew it was going to be hard
- Would probably be begging for the epidural at the end, but don't let me get it.
- Transition and Delivery usually go fast and you just need encouragement to make it through, so please help me through this part

She said ok and the night continued.

She brought me a birthing ball to work with while she filled up the jetted tub. The first ball felt too short for me and I asked if they had a larger one. The only one bigger looked liked this.

Yep, it looks rediculous, but it was taller and worked better for my long legs. I straddled it and was able to rock on it during contractions. After about 10 minutes I was able to get in the tub and spent the next hour and a half in there. I could definitely feel the contractions but they were bearable. I just kept focused during them with a rhytm and breathing pattern. Justin helped keep me on track with my breathing, stay hydrated and timed them.

I didn't really want to get out of the tub, but knowing that different positions help you progress faster, we decided I should probably try something else. My nurse, Anne Marie was awesome and helped me get out of the tub and back to the birthing ball. While I spent somet ime here again she put in my IV line. As she finished up with that, the contractions took a noticeable turn up in intensity. I began to feel a bit nauseous and like I wanted to cry.

Back to the tub I went hoping the water would help me once again. I was having back labor prior to this point, but like I had said before, it was totally manageable. After a few more contractions in the tub, this back labor was getting pretty tough to endure. This is the point I started thinking, there is no way I can keep doing this. I asked for the epidural. Anne Marie said she was going to need to check me to see if this was a posibility.

I got out of the tub and headed to the wall. I had used the wall at home to brace myself against and sway back and forth. The rythm of the sway and pushing against the wall had helped me. My instincts told me to try it again. Also, there was no way I was getting back in that bed with how badly it hurt before to lay there with my back labor. Anne Marie check me and I was at a 7. She said I didn't have time for the epidural because I still had to get a whole bag of IV fluid in and that would take at least half an hour. I likely would be fully dialated by then.

The contractions were incredibly intense and long and I didn't know what to do. We decided to go ahead with the bag of fluid because atleast that would help hydrate me. The hardest part at this point was I couldn't find a rhytm again and the contractions felt like they were over powering me. I let out a panick call of "Please help me."

Anne Marie got Justin to start pressing on my back and this helped me regain focus. At this point I began moaning like a crazy woman during contractions. It helped me to feel like I was releasing some of the pressure in my body. I started feeling like I needed to push and I was checked again, I was almost to a 9. I began working on my pushing.
Anne Marie kept trying to coax me back to the bed, knowing that I was going to have to be there to deliverr. I kept refusing. I knew they wanted me there so I asked them to put the squatting bar on the end, because that was the only way I could stand it. I was not laying in that bed, No way! I was still begging for an epidural and not moving towards the bed. Anne Marie said maybe they could give me some systemic meds through my IV to take the edge off. However, she was going to need me back at the bed so she could check me. Tricky tricky nurse. I would do anything that could help relieve some of the pain.

They had put the squat bar up and I got back on the bed. I was still at a 9 and Anne Marie had gone to ask the Meds nurse if she could give me anything. It was too late. The meds would have affected the babies heart rate. She checked me again and I was fully dialated. I was already pushing. Justin was still pushing on my back. Anne Marie began counting to 10 three times during each contraction. I was supposed to push for those counts of 10. This counting gave me something to focus on instead of just what I was feeling and really was my light of hope during this time. The next shift nurse came in and Anne Marie stopped counting to brief this nurse on what was going on. Bad moment for me, because her counting had been my focus. Justin quickly saw this and was able to take over the counting, pulling me back to a focal point.

We were around 6 a.m. at this point. The nurses really wanted me to lie back in the bed. I still was refusing because of the back labor. Finally I agreed to lay on my side because Justin could keep pushing on my back this way. The doctor came in shortly after this. Contractions were not nearly as intense at this time, but a different feeling of pushing the baby out came. It did hurt like crazy, but was a little more bearable.

The doctor who delivered Natalie was not the same who I had been seeing, but I am glad it was her. She had a strong energy about her and gave me the pep talk and encouragement I needed to get my baby out. There were three nurses helping the last 30 minutes and they were really positive and helpful as well. They held my shaking legs up so I could use my energy to push. Somehow, I still am not sure how, at 6:50 a.m. my beautiful baby girl came out with a final push. It is so strange to go from such severe pain and struggle to nothing at all. The nurses had to tell me to open my eyes to see my baby. She cried out and I cried out in relief and love as they placed her on my chest. After the cord stopped pulsing Justin was able to cut it. We both just sat there for the next hour with Natalie, amazed at what just had happened.

For me, choosing to go natural was the best decision I could have made. It was also the hardest thing I have ever physically and emotionally done. I could not have done it without the great support of my husband and the awesome nurses at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical center. I am so grateful for a healthy baby and a healthy strong body that was able to give birth in the way I had planned and prepared for.

Rocking Chair Story

One of the last things I wanted to get for our babies room was a rocking chair. I had been searching on Craig's list for the last little while trying to find a deal. We had also been praying we would have our needs met. Last Sunday a friend in my ward asked me out of the blue, "Do you have a rocking chair, and would you like one?"

I was so excited and instantly knew this was an answer to our prayers. Gratefully I accepted her offer. We traveled to her home to find this nice glider waiting for us. It came with a footstool and has completed the nursery.

This story emphasizes the quote to me, "God does notice us, and he watches over us.But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs. Therefore it is vital that we serve each other." Pres. Spencer W. Kimball.

This chair has been passed through three families in our ward now for baby rocking. I can't wait to use it to rock my baby too.

35 Weeks

35 Weeks and 6 days.... Had to snap the pic myself because we forgot to on Sunday when Justin was home. When I saw pics of other women's bellies that were this big in my first trimester I was scared for it to happen to me, now it just seems normal.

34 Weeks

I don't know how we have gotten to this point but here we are. I remember during college when you only had six weeks left of the semester it just seemed as though time flew. I have learned alot the last eight months, and I know this is just the beginning. We are headed to a bBreastfeeding and Infant Care class tomorrow and next Saturday we are taking a Child Birthing class.

I spent a lot of time debating over whether to take classes from the hospital or not. I have read a ton of information on child birth and just wasn't sure quite what to do. I am the type of person that may over prepare and I always want to have all of my bases covered. The biggest thing holding me back was the cost, but after deciding that education is expensive, I bit the bullet and signed up for both classes. I will let you know if they were worth it and if I felt like they were essential for me as a first time mom.

So far, I think I am over my nervousness of everything. I am just ready to have her. She moves alot and her movements have become pretty strong. It is incredible to feel her and I am always grateful for the reminder that she is doing well. Justin and I are are very excited to meet her.

Sleeping is becoming more difficult. I wake up about every 2-3 hours to use the bathroom. A body pillow has been a major blessing the last couple of weeks, along with going to bed early. I have to say I have learned how much work it is to make these bodies for the spirits that come to this earth and I am so grateful my Mom chose to do it seven times. Exercise has been a huge help for coping with the muscle and joint stretching and pains of pregnancy. I have incorporated walking, resistance training and yoga into my daily activities. These last six weeks I am definitley going to focus more on the relaxation techniques with yoga and walking. I am starting to crave a good run. I can wait though.

Belly pics to come next week.

Craft Alot?

I also had to include a picture of the car seat cover. This was a bit of a project as well, since it is only the second one I have made. I especially love the bows. I found a simple tutorial for them on pinterest (where else?). After finishing this and the crib bedding, I am about done with sewing for a while, thankfully I don't have any more projects right now that are pressing. Next projects - Baby Clothes, but not until after she arrives.

Crib Bedding

I decided to take on the adventure of sewing the crib bedding for our little girl. For two reasons and one is not because it is cheaper, but rather 1- I wanted the sewing experience and 2- I got exactly the pattern, colors and prints I wanted.

Crib bedding is pretty expensive, but because of some of the material I chose to use it was still a fairly even cost. The process taught me alot including confidence, and things I will do differently next time to simplify the steps. While there are a few mistakes, I am pleased and I know that my little girl won't care. If you are interested in a similar project, here is the blog I went off of. Click here.

I used a different blog for the crib skirt, but ended up having to tear it apart and start over. I have a weird bar thing in the middle of the front panel that prevent a straigth row of fabric from coming down. You can see what I did to work around that. My favorite part is the ruffle at the bottom and I guess I also love the birds, and the polka dots.

You can see we are storing some things underneath the crib. Still working on organizing everything.

Logan Baby Shower

My dear friends Amy P. and Lena B. offered to throw me a baby shower.
These two ladies are very dear friends and I was so grateful for their kindness.
Amy P. headed up the decorations, games, and overall structure.
Lena B. was in charge of food.
It all turned out WONDERFUL!
There were several people I have not seen in a long while who came.
I was given beautiful outfits, bows, a bathing tub, diapers, wipes, lotions, blankets and more.
People also wrote down notes from promps given by Amy, I can't wait to read them.
The other two ladies in the picture Megan C. and Allie R. are also some dear friends I made in college.
They stayed and helped clean up from the celebration.
I feel so blessed to have made friends with so many amazing people during my time in Logan.
We are all excited to welcome little Ms. Blazzard into the world.

25 Weeks and Counting

This is how I look at 25 weeks. I was super excited to find this maternity dress at Old Navy a couple of weeks ago. It was the right price, long enough, and super comfy! I can hardly take it off on Sundays, I love it so much.

Justin felt her move the first time on November 25th. She is getting more powerful with her movements everyday. I have gained 12lbs so far. I started feeling even better this week than I have since before I was pregnant. Together, we are doing great. I am not looking forward to the glucose test at the next doctors appointment though. I just hope I can keep that orange drink down. Ready for Christmas and then March to get here.

The Belly Growth

Another belly picture. I meant to take this during the 20 week period, but I never looked great when Justin got home and it just didn't happen. Here is 21 weeks and I know my belly grew between 20 and 21 weeks, so to bad I didn't take a picture the week before.

As for clothes, I bought a few shirts that were a size or two bigger than my regular clothes and they are still working. For jeans I just wear my pants that were too big but comfortable before I was pregnant. Food is tasting a ton better now, but I get a nasty taste in my mouth about 10 minutes after I am done with a meal. I haven't thrown up in two weeks. I have gained 7 lbs. so far. Last but not least, I love feeling her move. She can get pretty active at times. I started feeling her around the 17 week mark, now it is more frequent and stronger.

Funny fact, I used to run before I was pregnant, then I got really sick and haven't run ever since. Now I try to walk, well I can only go about half a mile before I have to turn around because I have to use a bathroom. I am grateful a lady in my ward teaches a workout class three times a week at the church. The bathroom is close!

20 Week Ultra Sound

We went in for our 20 week ultra sound on Monday November 5. It had been a long weekend as we anticipated finding out the sex of our baby. Then we had to wait almost 15 minutes at the doctor office to be called back for our turn. Finally, we got to see our baby. The ultra sound tech started at the head and moved down the body. Checking to make sure the baby had all of the parts a person needs. Everything was there and looked great! It was such a miracle to see the baby and how developed it was. The very last thing the ultra sound tech showed us was the sex. We were ecstatic to hear it is a GIRL! We both thought she was going to be a boy, but couldn't be happier and more excited to meet her. During the ultra sound she was moving around like crazy, which was fun to see.

Justin's comment on everything is so sweet, he says, "Now I have two beautiful ladies in my life."

We have some names picked out we like, but honestly I think we are going to wait until she gets here to decide. We love her so much and both agree she is the most amazing, beautiful thing we have seen. Here are some pictures.

Fall Ward Party

Our ward party was Friday night. A great time was had by all who attended. There were about 16-20 different chillis to taste for the cook off and other great food to accompany them. The missionaries actually judged the chillis. As always Justin made his white chilli that he always does for chilli cook offs. This year he named it "Diary Farm Special." Why? The only thing I can figure is he did it in honor of our friend Robbie, who is a dairy farmer.

In the past Justin has always gotten great compliments on his chilli at the contest he enters. In fact, it is often one of the first gone. He has never won a prize though. That all changed Friday night. He won "The Most Unique Chilli." We were surprised and excited. Here he is with the super cool award.

They also had the children do a parade of costumes. It was great to see them model their characters. Some of the kids were shy and some hammed it up. I wonder to myself, "What will this baby be like?" We will see next year :)
